I recently moved to a small town, and my neighbors, an active elderly couple, have been extremely nice to my daughter and me. They bought us housewarming gifts (a pair of carved angels, probably worth about $20), and they also gave my daughter a present for her birthday (a drawing kit, probably worth around $10).
I want to give them something nice and thoughtful, but not so extravagant as to be awkward. I'm thinking something around $20. They are both very high energy. He dotes on his flower garden and she is into quilting. I would be hesitant to get them gifts related to these hobbies, though, because I don't want to duplicate something they already have. Their home is already impeccably decorated, so I don't want to give them any sort of a knick-knack. I don't know their taste in food (or dietary restrictions), so that's out.
I thought about getting them a nice potted amaryllis to sprout. Any other ideas?
Gift suggestions for elderly neighbors?
That Idea you have of giving them a potted amaryllis (or just a selection of Spring Bulbs to plant) -- is an EXCELLENT Idea -- and also ... if you can ... maybe you and your daughter could go out on the weekend and (after your own yard is done) see if they need any help raking or picking up broken branches in their yard too!
I know they would appreciate the help -- and if you do decide to give them the Bulbs/Plants -- that they would welcome you and your daughter over in the summer to view the beautiful blossoms -- and what better way to give your child an appreciation for gardening than to have her see and work with an elder with so much gardening experience!
Reply:Most Amaryllis bulbs sold are infected with bulb scale mite and/or Stagonospora curtsii - a fungus that kills the bulbs after 1 - 2 years. It is much better to buy easy seeds/ miniature roses from a reputed grower for your friends. You save them a lot of trouble. Report It
Reply:hey why you are in confusion this is not a big matter to you , if you want to give him more thoughtful gift i suggest you that there is Christmas after few days you should give them a letter by Santa or it may be a bin of cookies.if you want to get more thoughtful suggestions please come to us

Reply:I think the idea of having them over for din-din or just snacks is a great idea! Maybe they can help you and your daughter decorate your tree that evening and then give them a special thank you ornament from you and your daughter for their tree? I know I am a bit older (grandmother of 5 yr old) and I would love that!
Reply:I would say invite them over for dinner, that would be the greatest gift and may be your daughter can draw them a nice photo and give them with a nice frame.
Reply:Depends adult diapers?...lol just kidding, but I give my elderly friends pre made knitted things like Afghans and couch covers.
Reply:Fruit Baskets , Pies or a Cake hmm maybe some cookies lol . Older people love to eat ! hell we all love to eat!
